Breastfeeding Encouragement Support Team (BEST)
We know that breastfeeding can be a very rewarding experience to both mother and baby, not to mention the practical aspects, along with the health benefits for mother and baby…and of course, breast milk is free!
Who are BEST?
We are a group of mums known as BEST, who have breastfed or are breastfeeding. Some of us have had to overcome problems with breastfeeding our babies. These problems range from having sore nipples, to baby not gaining much weight, suffering with mastitis, to finding the best position to feed baby.
We have all gone on to complete the La Leche League breastfeeding peer support course, which is run by trained lactation consultants. We understand that breastfeeding may at times need a little encouragement or support. That is why we have gone on to complete this course, in order to offer our help to mums who are breastfeeding.
What do BEST do?
- Support helpline for breastfeeding mums
We have a dedicated breastfeeding helpline, where a BEST supporter can take calls or queries mums may have regarding breastfeeding.
Sometimes mums are just in need of some reassurance, or it may be something more complex. In any case, we are trained to give relevant information and support.
- Bosom Babies support group
BEST supporters also attend the many different Bosom Babies groups that are run throughout Telford.
Here, mums are free to:
- come for a chat
- have a cuppa
- get reassurance and information about breastfeeding.
Many mums make new friends at the groups and of course breastfeeding at the groups is very welcome!
- Promote breastfeeding
You may also see BEST supporters at many different locations throughout Telford promoting breastfeeding.
We have regular meetings and keep up to date with information regarding breastfeeding.
- Breastfeeding friendly premises
We have recently started visiting local cafes, restaurants and shops in order to see if they have facilities that are breastfeeding friendly, such as somewhere where mum can feed baby that is clean and welcoming.
If the premises that we have visited are breastfeeding friendly, you will see a sticker on the door with our logo on.
